Team Parent Info
Dear JYSA TEAM PARENTS:
Welcome to the Jeffersontown Youth Soccer Association! Thank you for you participation. Without volunteer help we would have no league. Team parents are a big help. They take the administrative portion of team management from our coaches. This allows the coaches to focus on the kids. Good team parents make the league look organized. Some of the things that we ask team parents to help with are:
- Set up snack / drink lists for the games.
- Set up a phone tree for cancelled games or practices.
- Set up some kind of end of the season team party.
- Collect for a small coaches gift.
- If your team chooses to go to the District Tournament (U12 and up) or U10 Fun Festival, collect tournament fees from players.
- Help coordinate fundraising efforts for your childs team.
- Remind your team about picture day, and that they are to wear full uniforms to practice that evening.
- Print Maps / Directions for anyone who does not have internet access.
- Encourage parents to contact city council members and ask for support.
- Assign one parent the task of calling in scores and goal scorers to the Courier Journal Neighborhoods Section on Saturday or Sunday nights from 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM. Phone Number 582-4120. You may also e-mail them at Neighborhoods@courier-journal.com and give your league (J-town Youth), the name of the team you played, the score, and the names of the children who scored your goals.
Please feel free to ask other parents to help you. The more parents that get involved, the better the season will be for all of our children.
Parents Handbook
TEAM DIVISIONS
Teams are offered from ages 4 1/2 - 16 years old. The divisions are referred to as U-6, U-8, U-10, etc. meaning "under 6, under 8, under 10", etc. Players move up in the age divisions in the fall. The cut-off date for age groups is August 1st. For example, a player who turns eight on July 31st must play U10 in the fall. A player who turns 8 on or after August 1st will play in the U-8 league in the fall.
After sign-ups, teams are formed by a lottery draw for players (if more than one team is necessary), ONLY when sufficient numbers of players, coaches, and parent volunteers have agreed to commit for the season. PLEASE REMEMBER - all coaches and board members are parent volunteers !
PRACTICES AND GAMES
Practices and home games are held at Floyd's Fork Park. Practice are generally held every Tuesday and Thursday, 6:00 - 7:00 pm. (This can be dependent upon coach's discretion). Games are held on Saturday with a possibility of a Sunday game. Every player is entitled to 1/2 game playing time unless they are disruptive or habitually miss practices. The U-6 program meets every Tuesday and Thursday 6:00pm - 7:00pm with practice and a game on each night.
COACHES SHOULD
1) Teach basic game and skills
2) Teach team concept and sportsmanship
3) Encourage learning through fun
PLAYERS SHOULD
1) Come to practice and games on time
2) Come prepared to play soccer
3) Have fun while learning teamwork
4) Be respectful of coaches, parents who assist at practices, and all officials
PARENTS SHOULD
1) Commit to having players on time for practices and games
2) Support and encourage the team, coach, and officials
3) Volunteer time as indicated at sign-ups
SPORTSMANSHIP AND CONDUCT
Parents and team supporters are encouraged to become familiar with soccer rules before games begin. Sideline criticism of team play or coach's strategy is poor sportsmanship. If you feel that you could do a better job at coaching, we have openings for coaches every season, please sign up !
Coaches are responsible for the conduct of the team supporters and are expected to assist the referee's efforts to control the game.
According to KYSA rules, (which governs JYSA), the referee is the sole judge on the field, and his decision is final.
Any protest based on a referee's judgement will need to be directed in writing to the Referee Administrator.
